Quito Ecuador Otavalo volunteering
QUITO Ecuador - the capital of Ecuador, the second highest capital in
the world.
Here is a blend of urban and traditional native cultures.
The public transport is the most convenient to commute between the New
Town and the Old Town; or walk 3 kilometres.
New Town is in the northern part of the city where you find many hotels,
restaurants and travel services.
Artisans from across Ecuador are located in the tourist zone of La
Mariscal. Among many items there are Panama hats.
The greatest attraction seems to be Teleferico (Teleferiqo) : a cable car
system running up the hills with six-person cabins. It goes from the lower
slopes (3000m) of Volcan Pichincha to Cruz Loma at 4050m.
Tour operators from Quito organize tours for every traveler: from half-day
city tours to week-long trips into the jungle wilderness, or cruises
around the Galapagos Islands.
MUSEO DEL BANCO CENTRAL holds over 5 thousands years of Ecuadorian
culture, colonial and modern art masterpieces;
South of Quito, here are the most magnificent volcanoes, included
the highest point of Ecuador: Chimborazo – 6300m
North of Quito Ecuador:
Around the base of Volcan Imbabura in sunny, wide valley lies IBARRA.
Buses from Ibarra go regularly to San Lorenzo, as well as to Esmeraldas.
The eastern cordillera forms Park National Cotopaxi. In the center of the
park there is Volcan Cotopaxi: over 5890m. Cotopaxi is the most
popular climb in Ecuador.
Among green valleys with lakes and volcanic peaks you’ll find the core of
Ecuadorian handicraft: Otavalo Market.
There are frequent buses between Quito and OTAVALO.
OTAVALO (2535m) – located between the peaks of Cotacachi and
Imbabura.
• Saturday market in Otavalo is one of the biggest markets in South
America.
• Gracefully renovated haciendas offer colonial style with modern
amenities.
• There are many walking routes and horse riding trails.
Walk to the nearby lakes (Lago de San Pablo),
mountains,
the waterfall La Cascada de Peguche,
visit one of the weaving villages.
Nightlife at Otavalo’s discos and penas: at the penas the music is
usually folkloric.
the Condor Park – a rehabilitation centre for birds of prey.
11 km north of Otavalo: COTACACHI
This eco-city has cut down on water and pollution. It’s a centre of thriving
leather industry.

Ecuador’s weather is the result of the region’s altitude rather than the
season. June to September are the warmest and the driest months in
Sierra. From October to May there is sunshine in the morning with clear
skies, and clouds in the afternoon.
The Oriente weather: rainy, warm and humid days; less rain from August
to September and from December to February.
The coastal area is best to be visited from December to April.
Galapagos weather: hot and sunny with possible heavy showers from
January to June.
