TROPICAL CRUISE: ISLANDS with Birds, Giant Turtles and Sea Lions
During your tropical cruise you should visit as many islands as possible.
Puerto Ayora is the most important harbor of the Archipelago. In this part
of the Santa Cruz Island there are hotels and restaurants. And tourist
attractions such as: Galapagos Green Turtle, Galapagos Giant Turtle,
Galapagos Sea Lion, Swallow-Tailed Gull, Land Iguana and Red-Billed Tropic
Bird. This humid zone features ferns and Scalesia trees.
Isabela Island is famous by its natural diversity. Your naturalist
will tell you about the whale watching program.
Hiking up to Darwin Lake will allow you to see the unique vegetation
and the landscape. You can see here: Galapagos Penguin, Galapagos
Fur Seal, Galapagos Sea Lion, Land Iguana, Galapagos Giant Tortoise,
and Pacific Green Turtle.
The western coast of the island is a nesting place for flightless
cormorants and pelicans.
San Salvador Island’s vegetation has been altered from its natural
state by feral goats.
Here you will find Galapagos Fur Seal, Galapagos
Penguin and Galapagos Hawk.
In the Floreana Island there are: Greater Flamingo, Red-Billed Tropic
Bird and Galapagos Sea Lion.
One of the largest
communities of marine
iguanas, sea lions and
flightless cormorants
can be found on
Fernandina Island.
Genovesa Island is a
paradise for sea birds: Masked Booby, Red-Footed Booby, Frigate Bird,
Red-Billed Tropic Bird and Swallow-Tailed Gull. Also, look for marine
iguanas and sea lions.
Large species of the giant Opuntia cactus are characteristic for Santa Fe
Island. Here you can also observe land iguanas, rice rats and sea lions.
With its fresh water lakes, the southwestern part of the San Cristobal
Island has abundant vegetation. The animal species are: Galapagos
Sea Lion, Frigate Birds, Blue-Footed Booby and Galapagos Giant Tortoise.
Espanola Island is relatively flat. On the west there is large diversity
of wildlife: Masked Booby, Blue-Footed Booby, Red-Billed Tropic Bird,
Waved Albatross, Marine Iguana and Galapagos Sea Lion.
There are tortoises breeding
programs on Santa Cruz, San
Cristobel, and Isabela
islands.
Because for many years the
Galapagos Flora and fauna
developed in isolation from
the rest of the world the
species unique to the Galapagos have evolved in an environment in which
there were few natural predators.
